The Best Easter Finds: Perfect For Pointing To Jesus

Are you ready for Easter this year? I am looking forward in anticipation of all God has in store for my family this Easter. Today, I pulled my Easter decor box down from the attic. When I opened the box, I saw one of my favorite things at the top, my kid’s resurrection eggs. Pulling out my Easter decorations got me thinking about my second favorite Easter item: Easter pajama sets. Easter is all about Jesus and these two items are perfect reminders for me and my kids to keep our hearts and minds on our Savior.

It is mesmerizing that Jesus chose to come down from heaven to be on our level. Jesus came into our world as a vulnerable baby to live a life that was destined for one purpose: to be the ultimate sacrifice to atone for our sins. It is unbelievable that Jesus has such compassion for humans that he humbled himself and carried the burden of the cross. Jesus did this to make a way for each of us to be saved from a life separated from himself for all of eternity.

Before Easter This Year

This year, I started to read through the Bible with my kids. I wrote out a plan that is digestible for them and they have been loving it! So far this year, we have completed all 50 chapters of Genesis, 1 Corinthians 11-15, and all 40 chapters of Exodus. It is absolutely amazing to me how interested they have been in the details of the genealogies, the laws, and the building of the tabernacle. 

My little one is super interested in building structures and my eldest is just so enamored with anything related to God and His Word. So I took them outside to bring the tabernacle to life. I grabbed a tape measurer and chalk and set out. We measured and marked the ground with our chalk and traced the perimeter of the courtyard, then the Most Holy Place, followed by the Most Holy of Holies. 

Jesus Is In The Details

As we went through the details of the Tabernacle, we discussed the curtain that covered the entrance to the Most Holy Of Holies. We talked about how the curtain was a barrier between us and God the Father. I started describing to them the significance of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. When Jesus gave his life up, that veil tore in half from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51).

Jesus made a way for us to be back in the presence of God, like it once was in the Garden of Eden. This is why Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Both my kid’s minds were racing when we were talking about the significance of the Tabernacle, Jesus, and us. They were so excited to be able to put all these pieces together. All of their Bible knowledge started spewing out of them, and it was beautiful to witness. They both were seeing how Jesus is in the details.

Our Easter Advent Reading

This week, we started reading the book of Luke. Both my kid’s hearts are bursting as we read through the first few chapters. Because we just finished reading the details of everything God set up for Jesus to come and fulfill, their eyes became wide in wonder and awe. 

I wanted to read through one of the Gospels with my kids as we approach Easter because we just finished such a dynamic depiction of God setting everything up for Jesus to come and save us. Their hearts are prepared to receive the Easter account in a whole new way.

I plan to incorporate the resurrection Easter eggs as we read through Luke and reach the end of the book. Just as I used chalk and a measuring tape to show them how big the Tabernacle was, I want to show my kids Jesus in a creative way.  

Prepare Your Heart For Jesus This Easter

The resurrection eggs are such a fun way to lead my kids in the true meaning of Easter. Two weeks before Easter, I start hiding one resurrection egg in the house each day. Both my kids wake up each morning ready to find the hidden egg.

Upon finding the egg, we get to open it to see what is inside. Each egg has an item that goes along with the bible. We sit down and read passages, just as we do with our Christmas Advent. 

Anticipate New Life In Jesus

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless, and blameless life. He gave up his life and died in our place. We each deserve the punishment that Jesus took upon himself for us. Jesus didn’t just die in our place, he also conquered death by raising back to life (Revelation 1:18).

In the resurrection of Jesus, we were given the opportunity for a new life in the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ. This is a beautiful gift that we can choose to accept. If we accept the gift of grace, we get to spend an eternity with a God who loves us. Loves us enough to make a way to save us from our sins that keep us separated from Himself.

So this Easter, tell your children the life-saving truth of Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross. Point the hearts of your family to our Savior.
