Your Most Powerful Piece Of Armor
Every piece of armor is valuable in the life of the believer. There is one piece of armor, however, that is the most powerful. The piece of armor that I am referring to is the Sword of Truth, the Word of God, your Bible. The Bible is filled with God’s truth, His abundant love for us, and His plan for us as the Bride of Christ.

Why Do We Need The Armor Of God?
The Armor of God is well-known among believers. We know we face spiritual attacks on all fronts and want to be ready. The Armor of God is both for defense and advancement. Satan is diligent with his tactics to slow us, stop us, or throw us into confusion. As his fiery blows beat into us, we use our defenses against our adversary. As we defend against the enemy, we continue to move forward and advance the Kingdom of God.
Have you ever thought about praying the Armor of God over your children? Scripture is powerful, true, and effective. I lean on God’s power, truths, and use of His Word to protect my children. I love to pray scripture over them and it is a treasure when they ask me to pray with them.

Why Do I Pray The Armor Of God Over My Children?
God has given me a duty to train up my children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). This is both true in love and conduct as well as in training them to always be ready. Ready for what? We are to be ready for anything that comes before us. “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14).
Soldiers do not stand guard without putting on their protective gear. Nor do they stand to defend and strike back without the weapon that they have trained with. I am raising up soldiers for God’s Kingdom; I must equip them and show them how to put on their armor and be ready to defend in love.
The Bible says in Psalm 127:4, “Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.” My children are arrows that will one day be launched into the world. Before I fire my arrows and send them soaring onto the battlefield, I must prepare them.
I once heard a pastor describe the arrows as missiles. What a visual to have! My children are powerful missiles that I will issue into the world one day. So am I going to fire off duds, or am I going to fire missiles that will make an impact on the world for righteousness?
What Does the Bible Say?
Let’s read the famous passage together and then look at how I pray this over my children.
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.

How I Pray The Armor Of God With My Children
“Dear Lord,
I ask for your mighty hand to strengthen my child. I pray that you protect their mind with the helmet of salvation. Let them know that their salvation is secure in your hands. Satan has no grip on what belongs to you Lord. Guard my child’s thoughts from attacks of the enemy. Jesus, protect their heart with the breastplate of righteousness. Lead their heart in the direction of your love. Keep their heart diligently on you. May their actions be full of the right choices. I ask that they wear the belt of truth unashamedly. Jesus, let the truth of your word hold them tightly. When attacks fly in their direction, I pray that they hold up their shield of faith. I ask that You strengthen their faith in You with the trials they face. May their grip be strong on the sword of the Spirit. Holy Spirit, I ask that you bring to remembrance the truth of the scriptures to attack the enemy’s lies. And now, may they walk in the sandals of peace, ready to share the gospel with any of their friends, or people they meet. In the name of Jesus, Amen!”
When You Don’t Know What To Pray
When you don’t know what to pray, use the scripture of the Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. The Holy Spirit is our Helper (John 14:26). Jesus promised he will never leave us (Hebrews 13:5).
This is one reason why memorizing scripture is so important. When you have the Word of God hidden in your heart, your prayers will be filled with words of truth and wisdom. Leaning on God to speak through you takes the pressure off of you from needing to sound profound or intelligent.
Here are a few scriptures speaking to God’s Word being alive and a source of armor:
- The word of God is living and breathing and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).
- If you take refuge in God, his Word will shield you (Proverbs 30:5).
- Your faith comes through hearing the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17).
Get Into Your Bible And Armor Up
Today is the best time to open your Bible with your children. Start at the beginning of Genesis or with one of the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Even better yet, grab their bible, and read through it with them. Your children love when you read to them, why not make it the Bible?
Our children like to mimic us. Let them copy your good habits of reading the Bible and praying with them. When you start doing this, your children will naturally hold you accountable to keep going. Their hearts are holding onto all the truths God is speaking to them and they want to hear more. The faith of each child is astounding. This is why Jesus says we must receive the Kingdom of God as a little child (Luke 18:17).
